1. Wear An Oral/Dental Appliance Instead

This is one of the alternates for wearing a CPAP mask while sleeping. The patients who have tried this once have become very comfortable with wearing the oral device. For the sleep apnea patients, this has become a great device.

When you will be wearing this device then it will prevent the airway from collapsing by holding the tongue in position or it would slide the patient’s jaw forward. Either way, the patient would be able to breathe properly while sleeping. This oral appliance therapy is especially for those patients of sleep apnea who have a mild or moderate level of the problem.

2. Surgery for Sleep Apnea

Surgery is not an option for everyone as some might have a negative effect as well. It is, however, the most common option as it would eliminate the extra tissue that blocks the airway while sleeping.

The surgery can be done in the areas such as Soft palate and uvula, Tonsils and adenoids, Tongue, Upper and lower jaw. Before deciding to have surgery do ask the necessary questions as this is not a permanent solution sometimes and sleep apnea can re-occur at a later time.

So, this therapy would involve wearing a special device around your waist or back that would help you to sleep in the side position. It is an effective form of treatment.

5. Consider Changing Some of Your Everyday Habits

Some lifestyle changes or behavioural changes might also help getting rid of or reducing sleep apnea such as quitting smoke and alcohol. This might reduce the symptoms and help sleep better. A Cognitive Behavioural Therapy can also be useful for the patients on whom these treatments do not work.
