What is a dental crown?

A prosthetic covering that caps the entire surface area of a damaged tooth, dental crowns can be made from a variety of materials including ceramic, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), gold alloy, and zirconia. A dental bridge is a prosthetic that consists of a pontic (a false tooth) and one or more dental crowns that are anchored to the teeth that surround an extraction site.

How are crowns and bridges placed?

After your examining your teeth, gums, and jawbone density to confirm your candidacy, we’ll prepare your “anchor” teeth by removing any decay and reshaping the teeth. Impressions will then be taken of your mouth, which we’ll use to create a custom-made appliance. We’ll place a temporary crown while your permanent restoration is created, and once the latter is ready, we’ll place the restoration and adjust as needed to ensure it looks and feels great.
