Porcelain Veneers Treatment in Sarasota

Bright, Natural-Looking Smiles with Porcelain Veneers

A porcelain veneer is a very thin layer of translucent ceramic that is bonded over the front of the tooth. Veneers are used to change the color, size or shape of teeth. They are also used to close gaps between teeth and to straighten slightly crooked teeth. Dr. Strickland’s veneers can change a dull or damaged smile into a beautiful, confident one in just a couple of visits.

Using his trained eye, Dr. Strickland fabricates your veneers using the highest-quality material available. His veneers are designed to work harmoniously with your face. Veneers will spruce up your smile, or you can transform it into a specific look, such as a bright, straight, “Hollywood” smile. Whatever look you choose, Dr. Strickland designs your veneers to function with your real teeth and to look beautiful.

Dr. Strickland has been thoroughly trained and is very experienced in placing veneers. He has been transforming smiles with veneers for over 27 years, placing hundreds in that time.

Custom Designed Veneers for You

Dr. Strickland is meticulous when it comes to designing veneers, using the principles of art and his eye for proportion to turn your smile into a thing of beauty. His goal is to give you the smile you want using his knowledge and experience, advanced technology and the finest materials, in order to meet, and then exceed, your expectations. “You are going to be extremely happy by the time we get the final veneers on,” says Dr. Strickland.

Dr. Strickland is conservative with the amount of tooth preparation necessary, so you will be comfortable and will spend less time in the chair. He will preserve as much of your natural tooth as possible, while being able to change the contour, color or shape of your teeth so you will end up with the beautiful, new smile you want.

You will wear temporary veneers for a couple of weeks as a “test drive”. If there are any changes to be made, this is when you’ll know what they are. These changes are made to the final veneers so they will be perfect. When it’s time to place your final veneers, “there are no surprises at the end,” says Dr. Strickland.

Minimal-Prep Veneers

Normally, when placing veneers, tooth enamel must be shaved down so the veneer won’t protrude against your lip when it’s placed. With most of his cases, Dr. Strickland can use minimal-prep veneers, which are made of a wafer-thin porcelain known for its strength and longevity, and require little to no shaving of the tooth surface.

Long-Lasting and Natural-Looking Porcelains

All of our veneers are made from high-quality porcelain, which is a white, translucent ceramic. It is biocompatible, lifelike and very durable. Porcelain is most like natural tooth enamel, and when applied in layers, has translucent properties that mimic natural teeth.

When applying your veneers, Dr. Strickland uses a transparent or colored cement, which gives the veneer a natural, pearly appearance.

We use a laboratory with the highest credentials to custom-create your porcelain veneers. We communicate with the lab, making sure they understand how you expect the final veneers to change your smile.

Our Veneers Procedure

Smile consultation

When you talk with Dr. Strickland during your consultation, he will listen carefully to what you expect to achieve and what your concerns are. With this information, he will develop your custom treatment plan.

Designing your new, beautiful smile

We take digital photos of the inside and outside of your mouth, showing teeth, gums, face and smile. We also take impressions of your teeth to create a model that is an exact duplicate of your teeth and gums, which Dr. Strickland uses to plan and prepare the veneers procedure. From this model, we can do a wax-up, which will show how your smile will look after the treatment is complete.

Dr. Strickland uses the “Golden Proportion” when designing your smile. This is a mathematical theory that applies to the symmetry and proportions of anything in the universe. However, when using the Golden Proportion in relationship to your teeth, it is the principle that a tooth must be in proportion to the surrounding teeth and, in turn, the teeth and dental arch must be in proportion to each other and your face. When they are all in the proper proportion, your smile will be aesthetically pleasing. Your new veneers are designed using this rule, ensuring that your new smile will be beautiful and completely natural-looking.

Tooth preparation

Dr. Strickland will begin the preparation by gently administering anesthesia to numb your teeth. This is done to be sure you will not experience any sensitivity or discomfort during the procedure. We use The Wand® computerized injection system, which gives our patients virtually painless anesthesia.

The front surfaces of your teeth will be slightly etched using a very gentle procedure. This will allow room for your veneers. Because Dr. Strickland only removes a minimal amount of enamel, the procedure is as comfortable as possible and your natural tooth will stay healthy.

Once your teeth have been prepared, we will take a set of detailed impressions. These are the impressions that Dr. Strickland will send to our lab. The lab technician will then craft your final veneers.

Temporary veneers

During your initial treatment, Dr. Strickland creates and places high-quality temporary veneers, designed from the wax-up model. These temporaries will look very much like the final veneers the lab is crafting.

During this “test run” you can note any changes you’d like to make in the feel or look. You will also be able to test how well they work when you’re eating or talking. If there are any changes to be made, this is your chance to make sure your final veneers are comfortable, functional and beautiful. Dr. Strickland sends all of the input you give him to our lab technician, who will adjust your permanent veneers accordingly.

Your final veneers

Your final veneers will be ready and back from the lab in about two weeks. Dr. Strickland removes the temporary veneers and places your final veneers. He’ll check to be sure the permanent veneers fit accurately and precisely, and blend in right up to your gumline. He makes sure you can raise and lower your lips naturally and your lip line looks natural.

After Dr. Strickland makes any adjustments, and when you have approved the look, feel and function of your final veneers, he will bond them onto your teeth using transparent or colored cement. This optimizes the color between the natural teeth and the veneers, giving them a beautiful, natural, opalescent look.

We’ll set up another appointment for you to come back into our office in a week for a final, post-operative check. When you leave our office, we want you to be 100% satisfied!

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a procedure in which Dr. Strickland uses a soft, tooth-colored resin for minor cosmetic corrections. The bonding material is applied to the tooth in layers and then hardened using a special light. The material “bonds” right to the tooth. Although dental bonding can correct minor cosmetic flaws, it is not as long-lasting as porcelain veneers. Dental bonding is an economical way to fix minor conditions.

Dr. Strickland is very experienced in using dental bonding treatments on his patients. He takes great care when applying bonding, making sure the outcome is natural-looking.

Conditions dental bonding can correct

Dr. Strickland uses dental bonding to correct many issues, and can be incorporated into cosmetic reconstruction. Bonding can fix the following:

  • Minimal chip in a tooth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Tooth with a chipped edge
  • Tooth wear along the gumline
  • Misshapen tooth
